Never Work a Day In My Life?

"If you find a job you love, you'll never work a day in your life."

I think that's a loose recitation of the quote, but you've heard it, right?

Well, I'm not going to go as far as saying I will never work a day in my life, but I will say that after last week I am so beyond excited to see what God does for me and through me in my new position.

I would not have dared to leave my role at church for a corporation, but I did feel God leading me toward teaching. He developed that passion inside of me, blessing me with countless opportunities. I was able to teach youth in both large and small group environments, from kindergarten to college; travel overseas to teach the love of Christ through the avenue of English camps (on one such trip I would meet my future manager, how's that for divine appointments?); enroll in a Lateral Entry teaching program that focused on raising the achievement in under-served communities; and ultimately I was granted the opportunity to substitute at a local Christian school.

If that is not preparatory experience for entering into a role as a corporate educator, I don’t really know what is.

Meanwhile, this season has taught me a lot more than I set out to learn. It has taught me about complete trust in God for provision and protection. Somehow I never went hungry, my bills were paid, and I was even able to move into an incredible apartment which pushed me to both a new level of independence and dependence on our Father at the same time, and was something else I would not have chosen if the family with whom I was living had not been offered an incredible deal on their house in their own test of obedience.

“But the Lord will redeem those who serve Him,
No one who takes refuge in Him will be condemned.”
 Psalm 34:22, NLT

With utmost confidence I can look back on the past few months and see how the pieces fit together and make so much sense.

I can look up and thank God for weaving together the details of my story, even when I thought I could do a better job.

I can look ahead and know that God truly has the best plans for His children, better than we could ever dream.

My job is perfect for me. My team is incredible and I have the best managers on the planet. But would I have been ready to receive all of this a year ago? 6 months ago? Even two months ago? I doubt it.

There have been a lot of changes in my life, but I can finally say with full authority that I am excited for what God has in store. Praising Him in the darkness is what gave me hope and light. Gone are the days I wish for things for which I am not ready. I appreciate the wait, because it makes the gifts that much sweeter.

So today, I will wait with confidence for my husband.

I will wait with confidence for my children.

I will wait with confidence for physical healing.

I will wait with confidence for family restoration.

I will wait with confidence for God’s gifts, for He blesses His children with such good gifts.

And while I’m waiting I will rock the heck out of this new job, this new home, and this beautiful life.

"In their hearts humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps."

Proverbs 16:9

*The view from my desk. Ok, well this isn't an exact view from my desk, because I didn't want to be "that new girl taking pictures like she’s never had a job before" but it's pretty dang close. Just back up a couple feet, make a box with both of your index fingers and both of your thumbs and look through it [squinting] and that's pretty much the view I have. Incredible, I know.
